Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

We had a great Sunday visit with my father and stepmother today. We called this morning to invite them over for an afternoon visit and dinner. I tried a new chicken cacciatore recipe that turned out great!

I thought while we were all together we could try making the candy cane Rudolph ornaments for an activity. I set out everything on the table. Even Rowan joined in.

Smile Rowan!

Mommy and Rowan Enjoying themselves!

Everyone had fun and we ended up with a gaggle of reindeer to give away this holiday to the kids at Rowan's daycare.

Here is a short tutorial on how to make them. I remember making these years ago with my mother. I think I was around 7 at the time. She would get a craft book every year from a publishing company. Similar to gooseberry patch or something like that.

To complete this project, you'll need the following:

Hot glue gun with glue sticks
Google eyes
Red pom poms for the nose
Jingle bells
Candy canes
Brown pipe cleaners
Tiny grosgrain ribbon

Take one pipe cleaner and bend it in half. Cut it so you have 2 equal size strips. One half will be your main antler and the other half will be secondary antlers to make them appear bigger.

Take one half of the pipe cleaner and bend that in half. Cut so you get 2 equal size strips. You will end up with one large strip and 2 small strips.

Fold the larger pipe cleaner in half and place the bend of your candy cane through it. Twist it tight around the candy cane and flatten it so the ends are going in opposite directions to simulate antlers. Bend the ends upward.

Make the secondary antlers by bending the 2 smaller pipe cleaner portions in half and twisting them around the main antlers. One on each side. This completes your antlers.

Glue 2 google eyes on the candy cane front, glue a red pom pom for the nose, and tie a jingle bell around the handle of the candy cane using the grosgrain ribbon.

You're all done! This simple project takes about 10 minutes to complete and is a great activity for preschoolers (as long as a grownup does all the hot gluing).

Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas

I got an email from my swap partner yesterday. I have been so busy with work and the shop that I haven't gotten to reply yet. Julie, if you read this, I'm not ignoring you. All of our Christmas books are packed with our Christmas decorations. I need to take some time and get them out of the attic. You should hear from me by Sunday. Sorry for making you wait!

Thanksgiving was great this year! We ended up going to my grandmother's home. My parents were there along with my sisters. We had a great visit and ate way too much! I hope everyone's Thanksgiving was cheerful!

I was able to gather all the items needed for my swap partner over the last few days. I found a neat holiday book and am throwing in some hand made items. Rowan is going to help me make a special gift as well. I found the neatest craft idea that you make using candy canes. I won't post pictures here until after the swap so I don't spoil the surprise!

As I said earlier, this weekend we need to dig all the Christmas stuff out of the attic and "deck the halls." I'm looking forward to it. I'll post pictures when everything is done.

Updates and New Items

Whew! After a marathon run of pouring candles on Sunday, I'm tired! Many thanks to my wife for putting up with me taking over the kitchen for a day! She was trying to get the house clean for Thanksgiving visitors. I was able to finish everything by about 1 AM! And managed to clean the kitchen up after... (insert applause here and any applicable if a tree falls in the forest joke)

I did promise you a glimpse of the new items added to the shop:

This hang the stockings pillow was a reincarnated framed stitchery that I turned into a pillow. I stuffed the heck outta it and gave it a burgundy cotton backing as shown.

I also super sized the foil tart listings in the ETSY shop (CLICK HERE) for the upcoming holidays, should anyone want to try them out. Hint hint...

We created new packaging for our line of fixins. I still need to update the website. Will do that after I finish a few other things. Did I mention I am SOOOOO behind on orders for the shop? Or that I need to rejuvenate the wholesale section of our website. Where has this year gone? I need to get rid of that pesky time killer I call my full time job and focus on some real work. Ha! In my dreams, right?

I've been in the candle shop all day pouring. I need a break, so I thought I'd update you on the items we've added to the etsy shop (CLICK HERE). Of course, these scents are always available at our website (CLICK HERE).

Jar candles for a wholesale order. I've made several extra to sell in the shop.

Some tarts in new scents for the holidays! MMmmmm.... Chocolate Kisses, Starbuck's Coffee Blend, Apple Jack & Peel, and Spiced Cranberry just to name a few.

Here is a pillow stitchery I completed for a friend last night. She loved it. I can make as many as needed to. I listed them in my shop (CLICK HERE).

Back to It!

I've been on the mend the last few days, and am feeling much better. Thanks to everyone who placed orders over the last few weeks. You all were very understanding with the short delay. All orders should be on their way by now.

I'm scheduled to be in the shop this weekend pouring for some wholesale orders, so anyone wishing to contact me will probably have good luck getting messages through.

We are opening a small store in a flower shop here in town. Sunny Dale Flowers has offered us space for the holiday season. If we bring customers their way, it might be a semi permanent location. Feel free to stop by for a visit if you are in the Delaware County, NY area. We will be offering most of the items available in our catalog online. Candles, stitcheries, hand-dids etc. 20 Kingston Street, Delhi, NY 13753.

Creeping Crud!

Hey there guys! I haven't posted in a few weeks.

I've been down for the count the last few days. My son got sick at the beginning of last week and I caught something from him. It's been nothing but scattered tissues and empty tea mugs placed all over the living room. I hate being sick!

The worst part is that I'm all by myself at work. If I we get called I have to go. I've already had to slide off the couch a few times to go out. Ugh! I hate being sick!

I'll get all the orders from the shop out as soon as I can.
