A Little Birdie Told Me...

Look at what visited us for lunch the other day. We were sitting there at the table with the sliding glass door open and out of the corner of my eye I see something fly in.

It looks like this little guy must be out for his first fly. He was terrified, but wasn't moving anywhere. I think this is a baby robin? Please correct me if I'm wrong. I would love to know.

(UPDATE!!: Sandy and Leigh both said this was a baby sparrow. I confirmed it on google. Thanks ladies! I will show my son the page I found about baby sparrows after dinner tonight.)

I went over to grab him from the top of the picture and he flew off into the kitchen above the sink.

I was able to sneak up on him and grab him from behind. Boy did he read me the riot act! If I could've understood what he was saying I'm sure he would be calling me every name in the book.

We let him go off our deck and he flew into the maples that border our back lawn.

My son Rowan was talking about it all afternoon.

Happy Mother's Day

"All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel Mother."
-- Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865)

I want to wish all you moms out there a HAPPY MOTHER's DAY!

Here's a vintage poem I found:

A wonderful being is a mother;
other folks may love you, but only your mother understands.

Mother works for you, cares for you, loves and forgives you, and when you leave her. - like a guardian angel her memory is always with you.

Baby Brennan

For all the relatives who've been asking for new pics of baby Brennan, Mandy was able to get some good ones today while he was swinging in his chair. I can't believe he's 2 months old tomorrow!

He's got his momma's red hair!

Walsh House Backyard Flower Tour

While mowing the lawn this afternoon I couldn't help but notice how much Spring has finally sprung! The leaves are out on the trees and the flowers in the perennial garden are starting to blossom. I decided to take a few moments and show you some of the flowers I can find in my backyard. My son Rowan was pointing out all the flowers as I was photographing them.

He's such a ham in front of the camera!

Mommy and baby Brennan stayed inside as it was still a little cool out for them.

Now, forgive me if I don't come up with all the correct names for these flowers and plants. I'm not always the best at remembering what I've planted.

Forsythia has always been one of my Spring favorites. I always clip branches to bring in the house. It brightens the room so much with that great yellow coloring.

Our tour guide was getting a little too rambunctious! I asked him to run a few laps around the lower yard before going inside so he wouldn't wake his brother up.

Hope you enjoyed the tour!

Thursday Family Dollar Savings

THURSDAY GREETINGS EVERYONE - I was able to stop by Family Dollar on the way home today after work. The prices in my hometown are a little higher than what I would find in the bigger areas (ie: Oneonta). I was still able to get some good deals on dishwasher detergent. I also grabbed 2 boxes of Band-Aids as I had 2 more $1.00/1 ANY size coupons left.

My total OOP expense with tax was $3.90. I got 5 boxes of Finish/Electrasol Tabs for .50 cents each after a $2.50/1 ANY size coupon. They were $3.00 a box. The Band-Aids were $1.10 per box, so they only cost me .10 cents after the $1.00/1 ANY size coupons! Yippee! I might have been able to get all this FREE in a bigger area, but it would have cost me more than $3.90 to drive there.

How Do You Organize Your Coupons?

This is my method...

I use a 3 ring binder filled with baseball card sleeves. Everything is sectioned off by type of product. The coupons with the nearest expiration date go in front. Everything is handy and I can easily see what coupons I have. This thing goes with me everywhere.

My wife is so embarrased to go shopping with me. It takes me hours to get through a store because I check all the prices to look for freebies and SCREAMING deals.

My Tuesday Wal-Mart Loot

TUESDAY GREETINGS EVERYONE - I've been some busy lately and haven't had the time to update the blog as often as I normally do. In the midst of my travels today I was able to make a quick stop off at Wal-Mart for some coupon shopping.

I was able to get 30 trial size Johnson & Johnson Lotions FREE after coupons. I had 30 of those nifty $1.00 off ANY size Johnson & Johnson Body Product coupons. They were .98 cents each so they cost me ZIP! Yay me!

I was also able to stop at the nearby Dollar General and pick up some FREE boxes of Band-Aids. They only had 2 boxes left at $1.00 ea. With my $1.00 off 1 coupons they also cost me ZIP! I may hit up my local Family Dollar to see if they have any because I have more coupons.

Doing the happy dance!

Two Options for the 30s Geese

Here are the 2 layouts I'm thinking of using the 30's geese strips in. I decided to use all my 4 patches to make the Bricks and Stepping Stones quilt.

Here is option number one: I have some scotties and cats fused to neutral background blocks I can alternate, or...

Option number 2: I can make an all geese wall hanging.

What do you think?

Working this Weekend... Finding Some Time to Sew

SATURDAY GREETINGS MY FELLOW BLOGGERS - I am on call this weekend for the FH (YUCK!) We've been very busy and the phone hasn't stopped ringing. I did manage to fit some sewing projects in this evening. I feel much less stressed at the moment!

I was able to finish a table runner project that I had set aside for a while. I couldn't decide on a border print to complete the look of it and got so frustrated by it that I tucked it in a drawer and forgot about it for a few weeks. I opened the drawer today to look for something else and there it was staring me in the face. I decided to use the overall background print around the outside as a border and find a rose colored fabric to bind it with. That should finish it off and add a bit of color. Another UFO checked off my list! I'll send it off to the quilter on Monday.

I also started piecing some 30's geese blocks I had laying around. I started to make the geese last year out of scraps I found. I have a bunch of four patch 30's blocks from a quilting forum swap I'm thinking of pairing them with. I found this pattern online called Bricks and Stepping Stones. Maybe I will add the geese around the outside as a border. I'll see how it looks after I put it together. It might look a little too busy to add a geese border. I may just use the geese in strips and make a smaller wall hanging.

I got rather side tracked and ended up making a few larger blocks out of scraps too. I might turn these into hot mats or mouse pads. I'm not sure.
