Tailor Made by Cosmo Cricket { Fat Quarter Shop Fridays Sponsored Post }

Welcome to another edition of Fat Quarter Shop Fridays where we interview fabric designers about their new or upcoming collections and share it with our readers. You may remember that I recently had a wonderful collection of Cosmo Cricket fabrics arrive on my doorstep. Tailor Made, their newest collection with Andover Fabrics is on store shelves now and I am very pleased to have collected some for my stash. Blending very well with it's predecessor, Early Bird, this new range is fun to investigate. Combining images of vintage sewing artwork and tools of the trade I'm sure you can think of many creative uses for this line.



I recently got the chance to chat with Julie Comstock, founder and president of Cosmo Cricket. Here's what she had to say about her thriving business.

RWQ: Tell us a little bit about your company, Cosmo Cricket. How long have you been in business? What is your design background?

A little over four years ago, Julie and Eric Comstock, along with their partner Lindsay Moore, decided to start Cosmo Cricket. The idea was to have the best designed paper in the crafting industry. Things went crazy and it's been a wild ride ever since.

Julie and Eric have about 30 years combined experience in design. They met in the design program at Utah State University. After graduating with degrees in art, they worked in the advertising world until beginning Cosmo Cricket. Along with the work they do for their own company, Julie and Eric have been commissioned to design products for Andover Fabrics, Provo Craft and Land of Nod.

RWQ: Over the last few years, we've noticed a trend in scrap booking companies entering the fabric design business. How did your company happen upon it?

I think we were one of the first, if not the first scrapbook companies to enter the fabric category. It was always a dream of mine to have my own fabric line. I am a seamstress at heart and love designing and sewing clothes..... especially skirts.

RWQ: Is there a big difference between designing for scrap booking and designing for fabric? Was it a hard transition for you?

There are differences, but it's not hard. It's fun!

RWQ: Where do you draw your inspiration from when designing?

Eric and I inspire each other! We also have four children that spark a lot of ideas for our work.

RWQ: Is there anything you want to tell the readers about your inspiration for Tailor Made? Do you have a favorite print in the collection?

We just wanted to celebrate fabric, sewing and simpler time (that's why we included the vintage art). Things are so high tech now and the world moves very fast, but there is something wonderful about slowing down and making something that instead of becoming obsolete overnight will last for generations.

My favorite print is called Inspiration. It is the one with the large flowers and the vines. I love it because for some reason it reminds me of my favorite childhood movie, Cinderella. Specifically the part when the mice are sewing her dress for the ball.



RWQ: We really enjoyed one of your previous releases Early Bird, are there any other Cosmo Cricket scrapbook collections that you want to see made into fabric?

We have some really fun things in the works and can't wait for you all to see them!



Oooh! Sounds like we'll have to wait and see what's coming next because Julie's not spilling the beans! :)
