I was digging through my precuts this weekend and came across these jelly rolls, all by the Urban Chiks for Moda (who are incidentally two in-house designers, Alison Scully and Holly Hickman). They are quite possibly some of my all time favorite lines from Moda and I can't bear to cut into any of them. Swell being at the top of my list, followed by 1974, Hullabaloo and Blossom. The only two I don't have are Sweet and Dream On. Gotta hunt those down I guess...

It will take a special project to get me to open any of them. What are some of the fabrics in your stash you can't seem to gather the will to cut into?

Batiks .. they need something special to be used. Probably a hand applique project .. one of these days.
My set of Bliss. I just love it so much and hate to cut into it because then it will be gone. I know...weird. I just like to get it out and pet it from time to time. LOL
Carolyn - I have a set of Bliss fat quarters in flannel that are oh, so soft ... great for petting! :D
Mishka - My Batik stash is growing, slowly! I recently picked up some Bali Pops in a blueberry colorway that are very pretty.
Voiles by Anna Maria Horner and some of my Japanese import fabric. I really have to have a plan to feel comfortable taking the rotary to those!
Hill Country Spring. I miss Texas...terribly and am waiting for the right pattern to cut up my treasured jelly rolls. I wish I had bought some yardage, but it's hard to know what to buy when you haven't a clue what you're making! I have since have solved the problem. Hence, the reason for my rather large stash.
Jenelle - I know just how you feel!
Dirt Road Quilter - Sentimental fabric is definitely hard to cut up. But I always try and tell myself how much more I'll enjoy the fabric if it's in a quilt I'll use. It's getting easier to take the rotary cutter to my fabrics. Baby steps! :)
Love your reasoning! Buy lots so you'll have enough to use & save!
I don't have this problem! I cut into everything! :) I even made myself a little FMF pillow recently! I get excited to cut into fabric that's HTF!
I hear you! I have exactly the same problem. Maybe there's a cure out there for us LOL!!!
PS: I have a Bliss, a Hullababaloo and just last week I got a Ruby jelly roll which is going to join the same "never to use drawer".
Kelly - You certainly have been busy! When we first spoke about Neptune that day on the phone you were just getting into quilting and just look at all you've done since then. I hope I can be as fearless as you with my rotary cutter some day.
Oops-Lah - Mmmm... Bliss & Ruby. Nom nom, fabric yummies. Camille is releasing some great stuff.
It took me a while to cut into my Katie Jump Rope, but I finally did it a few months ago.
I also have a 1974 JR I have never untied. I have slowly been finding scraps and recently found a couple yards left on a bolt and a layer cake at my LQS. I hope to scrounge enough together for a good sized quilt. I also have a neptune layer cake and some Munki I just can't seem to allow out in the open... just in case a giant rips the roof off my house and decides to sneeze in my sewing room. You gotta protect the good stuff. :)
My Kate Spain Fandango. I am waiting to find the perfect project. I have a jelly roll and several fat quarters. Any ideas?
And I would love to have your 1974.... :)
I had that problem with a FQ bundle of Parisville, but I finally cut into it recently. I finished a Jelly Roll Race quilt just last night with a roll I had been holding on to for awhile. It was great because I didn't have to cut it at all! I just posted on my blog a few minutes ago with a link you can click on to see the video of how to make one if you are interested.
french general for moda. i have a need to get fabric each time a new line is released and have the hardest time cutting into them. i still have rouenneries that i haven't dared to cut and rouenneries deux is coming soon!
Ruby, boutique, strawberryfields,Bliss, mill house inn, fresh cottons just to name a few, maybe one day I'll take my rotary cutter to them....just not yet lol :) Barb.
So many but my toughest is Mendocino. Waiting for the "perfect" design to come to me. So weird as it is not even my go to colors but I just love it so much.
Oh I love Swell, but didn't buy any and wish I had! Anything by Fig Tree Quilts I love and cannot bear to cut into. And then there are some I wonder whatever was I thinking!
Innocent Crush. I have 2 jelly rolls of it and just waiting for the "special" project that will showcase this lovely material.
I just got a jelly roll in Jovial for my birthday. Can't wait to make a pretty Christmas quilt!
I have a Hello Betty jelly roll in the Retro colorway that I keep trying to drum up the courage to use! It was my very first Moda purchase, so it means quite a bit to me :) When I started searching for more, I only find the odd honeybun here and there...no yardage or other precuts.
I have a feeling any Ruby I pick up will join the "it has to be the most perfect project in the world!" pile. Gorgeous colors.
I can't bring myself to cut into my Wonderland stash. I have yardage, two honey buns, a jelly roll and a layer cake. I recently threw one of the honey buns into a swap bag for some to make me something so at least that's a start... I really want to make myself a giant quilt with it. Since it's for myself though, I always put it off.
I'm like Carolyn. I have the whole line of "Bliss". The fat quarters, layer cake, jelly roll, and yards of the fabric. I love it so much I can't cut into it. I like to pet it. When I say "pet" I mean feel it, look at it, drool over it. But I'm afraid if I wait too long, it will not be as pleasing to me as it might go out of style (in my head, of course).
Haha... I was facing that dilemma just this weekend. Daughter wanted me to make a pillows for some friends and teacher for Christmas presents. I didn't want to cut my pretties for just anybody. lol Lovely, Hometown, Sunkissed, Ruby, Bliss... to name a few.
I like the bali pops, for the wide variety of colours one gets. I'm currently working on a hexxie quilt with Kiwiberry, purples, pinks, greens and turquoise. I have another one that I haven't decided what it's for yet. The Bali Pops aren't part of the batik stash in the huge bin tho. LOL
I Love Urban Chiks! I always wondered who they were and why they don't participate in the Moda Blog hops or in the photos during Moda get togethers. I LOVE THEM! 1974 is my all time fave - so far. I have a small stash of it that I have yet to cut into, heck I have not even opened the layer cakes and charm packs. Another collection I can't bear to cut is Patisserie from Fig Tree. I think I can now cut that line since it has been upstaged by Butterscotch & Roses. :)
Anything by Kate Spain makes me freeze up, I finally cut into my stash of hers and it was worth it, two beautiful quilts. I made a gorgeous quilt out of Dream On, cut away Ryan.
I feel this way about Ruby. Sigh! The sooner I cut it, the sooner I get to see it everyday.
I have some Kate Spain terrain that I can't seem to cut into, plus I have some Lou Lou thi that I really want to make something special with (for myself) but can't decide what!
